Rainer Maria Rilke: a poet for these times?

Mark S. Burrows, poet and Rilke scholar visiting from the United States, will join Stephanie Dowrick, author of the recently released In the Company of Rilke, at this exceptional evening of discussion and poetry. Both speakers claim Rilke's visionary appeal goes way beyond academic and poetry circles. Thirty of Burrows' new translations are among the 90 Rilke poems in Stephanie's book. Sydney Writers Festival May 2010

Stephanie Dowrick will be involved in three events at this year's Sydney Writers Festival - appearing with the Premier of NSW, Kristina Keneally, biographer Blanche dAlpuget and novelist and memoirist, Hanan al-Shaykh.

A celebration of the Divine in Words, Music & Silence

As part of the Parliament of the World's Religions to be held in Melbourne, December 2009, this exquisite multi-art form programme will weave voices from all the sacred traditions into a single spiritual unity. Moving from the ecstatic to the visionary and the meditative, it will celebrate the Divine and our human relationship to the Divine through words - poetry, scripture, revelation -  as well as inspired music from leading sacred musicians, and brief but powerful silence.  The invitation is to know ourselves to be, always and inevitably, in the presence of God.
