Q&A: Identity & self-awareness

What would you like to ask Stephanie Dowrick? What do you want to know about identity, self-awareness – and even how and what to question? In this hour-long MP3 file, you will hear others’ personal, courageous questions, asked in a safe retreat setting. And you may benefit from Stephanie’s considered responses.

Stephanie Dowrick speaks with Kathryn Ryan

Recorded late in 2010, this is a particularly wide-ranging interview with Stephanie Dowrick on contemporary views of the sacred, Stephanie’s journey towards writing about the sacred dimensions of life in Seeking the Sacred, and particularly about the inevitable social impact of our personal philosophies.

Audio of Seeking the Sacred

Just published is the audio edition of Dr Stephanie Dowrick’s intimate, inspiring book, Seeking the Sacred, described by Claire Scobie in the Sydney Morning Herald as “A chalice of wisdom”. Whether you are a “seeker” or simply curious, this book speaks to some of our most pressing concerns, socially and personally, about what constitutes a more generous, rewarding life. Strong also on memoir and story, it lends itself particularly well to the personal voice of the author, and the intimacy of Stephanie Dowrick drawing out themes that touch all our lives. 12 hours; 10 CDs, beautifully produced at the Bolinda studios in Melbourne.

Gina Lazenby interviews Stephanie Dowrick

British writer and women’s retreat leader Gina Lazenby caught up with Stephanie Dowrick in Sydney recently. Here is a short video of Gina talking with Stephanie about her latest book, Seeking the Sacred, why she is an interfaith minister as well as a writer, big and small transitions and – particularly – identity and the stories we tell ourselves.

Conversations – listen & read

We have a new feature on this web site which lists some of my public conversations and interviews – and the occasional blog mention. These include some wonderful spoken word from the ABC, including the interviews with Rachael Kohn (The Spirit of Things) and John Cleary (Sunday Nights) which gave me very special opportunities to talk at depth about what Seeking the Sacred offers. More radio interviews with Richard Adey, Jill Emberson and Chris Stewart.

I have also included Toni Whitmont’s “Ten Terrifying Questions”, plus interviews with the CAPA Magazine, of specific interest for therapists, and with Rosamund Burton for Nova.

Peaceful Mind – a sublime meditation CD

Stephanie Dowrick & Kim Cunio’s magnificent CD collaboration

Peaceful Mind is a powerfully effective meditation CD created by Dr Stephanie Dowrick with musician/composer Dr Kim Cunio.

There are five tracks, opening with a short talk from Stephanie on how to meditate and the benefits of meditation. The CD also includes a half-hour guided meditation practice and, for busy days, one that takes only 17 minutes.  Those meditations are supported by Kim’s sublimely soothing music. There are two music-only tracks, and the second of these features the voice of visionary soprano, Heather Lee.

Self-Love – Stephanie Dowrick Meditation and Discussions

Self-Love: Accepting Yourself & Loving Others (2 CD Set)

Self-Love allows us to treat ourselves respectfully and affectionately. Yet many of us fear self-love, or misunderstand it.

In this series of six in-depth talks with leading broadcaster Geraldine Doogue, Stephanie Dowrick shows how our attitude towards ourselves is lived out through all of our relationships. And why an understanding of self-love has urgent social as well as personal consequences.

This two-CD set also includes two in-depth meditations on self-love, self-confidence and self-forgiveness. The longer is set to the exquisite music of J. S. Bach, played by Richard Tognetti.

Guided Meditations: Grace & Courage CD

Guided Meditations: Grace & Courage

Two intensely powerful and beautiful guided meditations from Dr Stephanie Dowrick are combined with the inspirational gospel-style music of singer-composer Tony Backhouse to create a unique inner experience of joy, consolation and hope.

The first meditation is an invitation to grace; the second, an invitation to courage. Also included are three complete songs from Tony and a short daily meditation practice – Come Home to your Heart – from Stephanie Dowrick.

This is an ideal CD for people in crisis, or those who need and want support in finding peace and greater confidence within.
