Stephanie Dowrick on sacred hospitality

Feeling “at home” in our own lives is essential for our inner peace – and for safety and well being. Yet in our world unprecedented numbers of people are without the safety of a home, and sometimes also without a homeland.  Others feel profoundly unsafe within their own homes. Still more are lacking a fundamental sense of meaning and belonging.

Hospitality” is a sacred virtue. It is what is meant by caring for neighbours – and extending our vision of “neighbourliness” way beyond so-called “people like us”.

Along with thinking about that with new freshness and vigour, in this talk Rev Dr Stephanie Dowrick also asks us to consider the “hospitality” we are offering our whole selves, not splitting ourselves internally. We might also consider what ideas and ideals we “welcome”, and are most eager to cultivate and express.
